Just before I attended The Hive blogging conference last year, I did a blog post on Gift Ideas For Newbie Bloggers. I attended The Hive again (this time in Berlin!) and I thought it would be a good idea to do another post on gifts for bloggers with ideas for both new and established bloggers. Only this time, I decided to ask The Hive bloggers to share their favourites. Here's what they said.
1. Creative design services
I'm starting with a gift idea that a majority of bloggers would be thrilled to receive. This gift idea came from Tina Lung Porter of Little Miss Organized who says, “A great gift for me would be to have someone design my business cards, letterheads or flyers for me as I am not good in doing that myself. Gift the blogger in your life the services of a creative design artist or a visualiser who can help them design collateral like logos, business cards and blog design. While these services can be a tad expensive, you can get a good deal from fin year students in commercial arts who are looking for projects to do. It helps them build their portfolio while bloggers get help in an area they don’t have an expertise in. Do make sure you like their design style and they are reliable.
2. Mentoring: A blogging 101 class
When you’re just starting out as blogger, there’s a lot of new things you’re learning, trying to understand about blogging. It can seem tricky and complex. Here’s when advice from established bloggers can be a big help. Annelies Morlion of Baked It says, “My blog is just five months old (I'm newer than a newbie). The gift I would appreciate the most is a lesson on how to successfully combine a day job and a blog. At the moment I still feel like I'm making it up as I go. I would love more structure.”
A blogging 101 class would be useful and much appreciated gift for bloggers who are just starting out. It can help them get up to speed on different aspects of blogging like creating a content structure, building a content bank, how to use photographs, SEO not to mention other aspects of a bloggers life like managing a day job and a blog. Here are some popular blogging courses:
3. All-in-one-blogging resource guide
Something similar to the bloging 101 class is an all-in-one resource guide. Albert Lin of The Traveling Bachelor says, "I'd appreciate a handout on good legitimate resources online for bloggers - organization, inspiration for blog structure, Wordpress help, SEO strategies and the like." While it might be hard to find everything related to blogging in one place, here are some popular books that could be a good source for some important topics related to blogging.
4. Planners, diaries and notebooks
This is a gift idea after my own heart. Jenni Fuchs of Museum Diary says, “Despite all the digital tools available for scheduling these days, I love a good old fashioned planner or diary to organise my blog (with 'Diary' in my blog name, how could I not?). And as a culture and travel blogger, I always take reams of notes on the places I'm visiting – notes that help me write my posts later. So good quality notebooks would be my recommendation for a blogger gift idea."
Try these absolutely gorgeous notebooks and diaries by The Magic Notebook. Inspired by fairy tales and children's classics they are created by Korean artists. Take a peek, you're in for an absolute treat!
5. Susbscription to a photo-editing service
And finally, here's my pick for a blogger gift idea. In my first post on gift ideas for newbie bloggers, I had suggested photography classes for new bloggers. But for bloggers who already have photography skills, the next best thing is gifting them a subscription to a photo editing service or apps that allow them to take thier blog photographs to the next levels. Adobe, Corel, Photoshop and Pic Monkey Royale are some of the popular editing apps used for editing images.
So that was my roundup of 5 blogger gift ideas from The Hive bloggers. What do you think? I'd love to hear your suggestions.
