Mother’s Day is around the corner and I recently read a verse that had me in splits.
Let's see, hours of screaming labour,
about a million poopy diapers,
thousands of loads of laundry,
years and years of sleepless nights...
and you get a Mother's Day card.
Ha! I love cards of all kinds and think they can, often, express an emotion well. But for those of you who would like to go beyond Mother’s Day cards, I’ve got a splendid line up of Mother’s Day gift ideas for you. These are gifts you can give any time of the year, not just Mother's Day.
New moms: Is one of your friends or relatives a new mother? Motherhood can be overwhelming for new mothers and it's always nice to have a bit of help to take care of your baby. Try making a mini kit of things she will find useful, like this Burt's Bees Sweet Memories Gift Set. It's got some baby shampoo and wash, baby lotion, diaper cream, mini body oil and mini buttermilk soap. Or perhaps just this Burt's Bees Diaper Ointment; diaper rash is fairly common among babies, that's where this gift can come in handy.
For chef moms: This Chef's Choice 860 Pie Maker is a perfect Mother's Day gift for mothers who love to cook and bake. Its professional baking system includes a pie maker, digital timer, pastry cutter and yummy recipes. What's more, you'll be one of the lucky ones to taste her delicious pies!
For tea loving moms: If your mother is a tea lover and prefers to stay away from gadgetry, this simple Leaf Tea Infuser could just the right thing for her. You can bet she’ll be thinking of you while sipping her numerous cups of chai.
For moms who sew: Have a big mother’s day budget this year? Then go ahead and splurge on this Brother CS6000i Sewing Machine. With 60 built-in stitches and 7 styles of buttonholes, it’s perfect if your mother is a passionate sewer and quilter.
For tech-loving moms: Speaking of splurging, is your mother a tech-savvy, gadget lover? Then she’s likely to love having her personal tablet. Whether it is to work, read books, watch movies, use her favourite parenting and cooking apps or stay in touch while she’s on the go, the Kindle Fire HD is one gift she'll be using a lot.
For grandmothers: I read somewhere that grandmothers are mothers who are grand (so true!), and this Mother’s Day is a perfect time to celebrate them as well. I love this Grandmother Keepsake Box. It's beautifully symbolic of the love and care grandmothers give - the kind that transcends the years.
That's my pick of six gift ideas for this Mother's Day. Which one would you choose for your mother? Or is there one you wish you were lucky enough to get this Mother's Day?
Remember to celebrate motherhood all year long!
